New Perspectives

A new series is well underway. The exciting thing about this particular series is that it is made up of all the oldest ideas and sketches that I always envisioned but never quite got to paint. I have been learning to see as honestly and clearly as possible and transferring this to the canvas without filling in the blanks. It's not the easiest thing to do as the logical mind is always trying to use shorthand to explain the image it needs to relate.

The paintings are all from different, often awkward positions. The viewer will look up from the bottom of the ocean and see the moon, this is a painting from something I saw about twenty five years ago, I have never seen the same transparent ultramarine blue since. I have had this image in my mind for so long I almost know it by heart.

Another image is the rain barrel, the image that started me on the whole journey of painting water. I always equated the leaves floating up and down from the bottom almost like ghosts rising and falling. One of the strangest paintings I'm just beginning is a view from below the ground, it looks up to a field where a child sits by an old willow tree. You can follow the roots of the tree down into the ground where it touches a large oblong box that you can see deep into as well, not too much as to be morbid but the name of the painting is Child of Ten and it is very biographical.

Another aspect is several paintings of kayaking in recent trips. I will probably add in another small group of paintings that I will be doing for Paint Rowlett- I plan on painting them on site so stay tuned.

I am very excited about the traditional paintings as well, getting back to really seeing again. Looking deep into water and finding my depth and clarity again. I  will debut paintings as they are finished and hope to have the series done early enough in the fall to have a full blown post about it before Christmas.
